We’ve just spent a week (with a couple more to go) living in a resort in Glenorie.
The house we’re in was built as a B&B (Bed and Breakfast). The owners are away for three weeks and we have the delightful job of looking after the house and the two cats – Tiger & Lilly.
We wake up each morning with a spectacular view across to the Blue Mountains. There’s a swimming pool (which we’ve actually used), beautiful gardens and natural bush at the end of the garden.
In addition, there are 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. One of our biggest challenges has been to decide which room to use as our bedroom – it took a couple of attempts but we’ve now settled into a big room with a 4-poster bed and stunning views.
Sorting out office space was also a bit complicated. We got all set up only to find that our Telstra wireless broadband didn’t work in the area we wanted to use. Also, just to keep things interesting, we had an incredible storm (one of the neighbours was saying it was only the second time in 7 years that their back yard had flooded) which knocked out the household phone and internet connection for quite a few days. Makes you realise how dependent we’ve become on technology.
Last week’s post was about being happy in the moment (Happiness is…). One thing we’ve found is very conducive to being happy is to be in house that you really love (and you don’t even have to own it). People pay a lot of money to have a holiday in this place and, as house-sitters, we get it for free – that’s awesome.
There are times when the house you get to stay in is a good reminder of what you don’t like about places and at those time house-sitting can be a bit of a drag (especially when, like us, you don’t have a ‘real’ home to go back to). But then, there are times, like now, when you get to stay places that remind you what you want in a house and it’s a wonderful and joyous time.
Now, just so you don’t think everything’s perfect, we’re still living out of boxes, having technology challenges, the weather can’t decide if it’s the middle of summer or the depths of winter and going to a meeting takes a huge chunk of time out of the day but for us, right now, it’s heaven.
