According to reporter Alex Cullen in a segment he did for Sunday Night (aired April 27, 2014) “Sinkholes are sudden, catastrophic, and almost entirely unpredictable”. From our perspective – he got that right.
This week a sink-hole appeared in our house-sitting calendar.
Last week we were booked until early August. We felt calm and positive about this as it gave us time to get new bookings.
Then I had a call from a lady we’d booked for the period immediately after our current gig, which ends 19th June.
Her husband’s job situation had changed and so he was no longer travelling as much as he’d been doing until now. This meant, there was no need for a house-sitter.
That’s created a bit of a hole for us.
While we’re determined to stay positive about it – something will turn up – it’s getting very close to the deadline.
I’ve mentioned previously that this has been a year of firsts for us – and this is one. Mind you new things are not always desirable. Stability, security, knowing where you’re going to be living in the next few weeks, all have a lot going for them. (We’ve never been cancelled on before especially at such short notice.)
However, the Universe has decided we needed a bit of a shake up.
As with all things, we’ll deal this with calmness and equanimity (if you’re thinking “in your dreams” I suspect you’re right).
However, right now we’re making the best of the beautiful environment we currently live in. This morning was spent chopping wood and this evening we’re sitting by a lovely warm and incredibly atmospheric fire. As a friend recently pointed out to me, there’s something about a wood fire which turns a house into a home – especially when you’ve cut it yourself.
As a result I can attest to Henry Ford’s comment “Chop your own wood and it’ll warm you twice.”
Meanwhile, we’re exploring our options.
So, if you or someone you know would like to take a short holiday (whether it’s a trip to the ski fields or up north to get warm) the dates from the 19th June to 2nd July would be a REALLY GOOD time to go! You know you want to!!! 🙂
Anyway, we’ll press on and we’re looking forward to the next phase of our big adventure.
