When we’re in a house we really enjoy we keep trying to encourage the home-owners to extend their holiday.
We figure it’d be a win-win situation – they’d continue to have a lovely time and so would we.
For some obscure reason (maybe it’s to do with this strange obsession of needing to go back to work – go figure…) noone has taken us up on the offer.
However, the next best thing is a cancelled or delayed flight – it gives us all more time.
This week that happened… I received an email telling me the flight home had been cancelled and they’d be returning a day later than planned.
Interestingly, I’d just met the home-owner’s business partner and he was saying how he needed his partner back asap.
Meanwhile, the home owner, had emailed saying how desperately he wanted to get back to work. Everyone seemed to be in a hurry to get back to the ‘real world’ and so there was clearly no way our stay would be extended.
Sometimes, Danita and I get to the end of a house-sit and are looking forward to the next one. Sometimes, we really like where we are and would love to stay longer.
That was the case with this one and so the news of an extra day was very welcomed by us.
However, we were already committed to a short term rental – very expensive and not recommended but sometimes “needs must” as they say.
We did consider postponing our move but it was very short notice and on further consideration was going to be too complicated, so we moved, as planned.
The extra day, however, did have one major benefit for us. Instead of trying to be packed and out of the house by 11am (as per the original plans) we could take our time and carry out our move without a panic.
Trying to be moving out at the same time as the owners are moving back in is REALLY challenging.
So we were very pleased that their flight had been cancelled.
As they say “Every cloud has a silver lining”. Personally, I think it’s a very odd thing to say. However, in this instance, the silver lining was definitely for us.
I had been wondering if the the Universe was ‘picking on us’ – see reference to short term rental – but decided I was just being paranoid.
Maybe the extra day was the Universe’s way of making up – but then maybe that’s just being silly!
Many personal development courses will tell you that nothing has meaning and that we create our own anxieties by attributing meaning where there is none – I disagree!
Everything has meaning and purpose if only we can relate to it properly, but that’s a long conversation and not one for now.
I do confess to a deeply personal and intimate relationship with the Universe – it’s just that sometimes it could be a bit clearer about its messages.
