On October 18th will be the New Moon. This is the completion of one cycle and the beginning of the next. A New Moon occurs when the Sun & Moon are on the same degree of the Zodiac – in this case 24deg 59min Libra. As each degree consists of 60 minutes the location of this aspect is right at the end of the degree and so has special significance with respect to the end of a cycle.
The Sabian symbol for Libra 25 is “The sight of an autumn leaf brings to a pilgrim the sudden revelation of the mystery of life and death”. Here we have the pilgrim, a person on a spiritual journey, is being confronted by signs of the changing seasons and has the realisation that everything works in cycles. A good example is an oak tree. When an acorn is planted and grows into the tree the seed has died, it can no longer be found. No matter how much we chop up the tree we’ll never find the acorn. What is death for the acorn is birth for the tree.
As this conjunction (the Sun and Moon in the same place) occurs so close to the end of the degree we see quite clearly the end of one cycle leading into the beginning of the next one. So it is with us. As we reach the end of one cycle we move inexorably into the next one. The more we hold onto the mindset, thinking, beliefs and paradigms of the old cycle the more traumatic and uncomfortable the changes are. When we understand that as the old cycle ends, the things and ideas we’ve been holding onto are holding us back and we need to release them so we can move on, we then become attuned to the birth phase rather than holding onto the death phase of our life’s cycles. While we may still have unpleasant experiences, we relate to them in a very different way. What was previously challenging, painful and confronting is now filled with opportunity and excitement – even as we nurse the wounds and bruises.
The Sabian symbol for Libra 26 is “An eagle and large white dove change into each other”. This is like the Yin-Yang symbol. When that symbol rotates quickly the Yin & Yang become merged into a single image. The implication we draw from this Sabian symbol image is a similar process. The Masculine/Yang of the Eagle and the Feminine/Yin of the dove are merging resulting in the energies and polarities working together to achieve a common objective. Potentially the martial power (represented by the eagle) is being used correctly to bring about a state of balance and harmony (represented by the dove).
Over the last few weeks there have been a number of traumatic events. I’ve heard about a lot of people having falls, car & motorbike accidents etc. These events are part of the process of tying up the loose ends, pointers to lessons we haven’t learned properly or karma being worked through. Like the pilgrim these have been personal. The next month will result in similar events on a broader or national scale.
Enjoy the journey.
