In the previous post in this series we talked about the first stage of development, after a child is born, is communication. Unable to do anything else the baby is, however, a very effective communicator.
The next phase is Venus.
Venus is the planet (or symbol) associated with beauty, balance and harmony and, after the Moon, is the main feminine planet.
For the new born child the world is a beautiful place. Even in places where life is not as good as it could be, places torn by war or famine, life for the new born is RELATIVELY pleasant. It is carried around, fed as regularly as possible and protected as much as possible.
It’s during this phase where the child begins to recognise the faces of family and those people who are close to it and at this time doesn’t have a conscious understanding of pain and suffering in life.
This is also the time when the child begins to develop their creativity. We are all creative beings and yet many people will tell you they’re not creative. This is because we limit creativity to specific forms of expression like music or art.
When we look at children playing we see them occupying a world where a cardboard box can be a spaceship or a house or a car or …. In a very young child we think this is something to be encouraged and yet as the child gets older we try to suppress this by telling them not to make up stories or that the world doesn’t work the way they see it working.
(I often see this mindset in people who tell me they never read non-fiction. I find that to be a very sad situation. Non-fiction books are good for getting the facts about what is or was but they can never cover what could be.)
Returning to Venus: it’s this aspect of ourselves which gives us the ability to perceive beauty and harmony in the world. We express that through creativity, romance and the ability to attract. This is what develops during this phase in the child’s development.
Like everything, Venus presents an opportunity and a challenge. The opportunity is what I’ve been outlining above. The challenge comes in the saying “beauty is only skin deep”. An overabundance of Venus can make a person shallow and only able to see people and things at face value. When confronted with the challenges and difficulties in life they collapse and expect someone else to look after them. Like little children, they can’t or won’t take responsibility for the results of their actions.
When I look at Venus in a birth chart it shows me how the person expresses their creativity, how they attract the people, things, ideas into their life that they need and what works for them romantically (see The Five Languages of Love for more on this).
