Starting the new year has been a bit challenging for many of us. I’m convinced that Australia shuts down and is in holiday mode from Melbourne Cup (a horse race run each year on the first Tuesday in November) until Australia Day (26th January).
This means that we’re just waking up now and getting back to work.
Part of that process is setting your goals and intentions for the year. This year there’s been a lot of talk about which words are going to be your drivers.
Here are some that I’ve come across so far:
Mandy Holloway from Courageous Leaders chose Focus & Embrace (see Mandy’s post here)
Suzy Jacobs from She Business has Care, Create & Inspire (Suzy’s article)
Lorna Patten from Open Up Communication chose Whatever (Lorna’s post)
Mine are Joy, Passion, Gratitude & Fulfilment (am I being a bit too ambitious?)
And one more that I like but won’t tell you the source is DILIC (Do I Look Like I Care). I think this is very useful when needing some perspective and a reality check.
But are words really that important. Here’s a quote from the Institute Of Noetic Science (IONS). “Research has shown that the words we speak can change the world within and around us. Prayers, poems, and sacred writings are the language of the soul. The simple, powerful act of creating a deep relationship with words you love can be medicine—igniting healing and awakening in you and those around you.”
So, what are your words for the year?
Naturally, once I’d decided that my post this week would be called “It’s Only Words” I’ve had the BeeGees’ song on continuous loop in my head. So let me share it with you.
Smile an everlasting smile
A smile could bring you near to me
Don’t ever let me find you gone
‘Cause that would bring a tear to me
This world has lost it’s glory
Let’s start a brand new story
Now my love right now there’ll be
No other time and I can show you
How my love
Talk in everlasting words
And dedicate them all to me
And I will give you all my life
I’m here if you should call to me
You think that I don’t even mean
A single word I say
It’s only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
You think that I don’t even mean
A single word I say
It’s only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
It’s only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
It’s only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
And just to make sure you’ve really got it here’s a link to the song
What are the words that will drive you this year? Whatever they are, I hope you have a good one – and now get to work!
